Apple Devices Being Taken Over and Ransomed

To all iPhone and Mac users, now would be a good time to change your Apple password that is tied to things like iTunes and mobile app purchases. While Apple hasn't had any intrusions, hackers have started using emails and passwords compromised on other sites to login to Apple accounts online and remotely locking devices using Find My iPhone and demanding a ransom - even those with two factor authentication enabled are vulnerable because Find My iPhone bypasses that security as it assumes you have no access to your devices.

You can change your password locally on your iOS device under Settings where your Apple ID is listed, or you can click this link to access the website where managing your ID is possible. A good lesson to keep in mind for the future is that it's never a good idea to use the same password on multiple sites for just this reason. Even though Apple wasn't compromised, others have been and it's leading to this potential issue.

If you have questions or think you might already be impacted, Toland Innovations is available to help.
